Photographs, 1982–1985

February 16 – March 13, 1985

Photographs, 1982–1985 is a body of work that explores the synthesis of images and experiences from disparate locations. Using poetic and formal relationships to connect them, metaphor and composition are the foundation of placing images together, creating a new way of thinking about them individually and together. The resulting juxtapositions offer a range of psychological and physiological responses.

Each image is full frame and printed side by side on silver gelatin paper using a masking stencil and two film holders. Reflecting on this work after 30 years, there are a number of conceptual and technical ideas that continue in my work: the formal approach to image-making, the strong compositions that are made at the time of exposure, exploring methods of creating images that are poetic and ethereal, and establishing technical challenges in the making of photographic imagery.
